DanceAbility International also announces a new fund, the “Emery Blackwell Legacy Fund.” Our initial goal is to raise $20,000 in 2014 to honor Emery Blackwell. Emery has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair. He was DanceAbility International’s first performer with a disability. Emery is retiring this year, after 24 years of volunteering as a dancer and dance teacher. The fund will carry on Emery’s generosity and passion.

Emery has inspired tens of thousands of people around the world through his joyful spirit. He has performed in the snow in the Swiss Alps, in the pouring rain at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and in theaters around the world, from Hong Kong, to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

According to Emery’s wishes, your donation will allow the next generation of dancers-—who follow in his footsteps and wheelchair tracks—-to provide free or subsidized performance-assemblies to school children, and provide scholarships for dancers who want to participate in DanceAbility.
